The Rise to fame:

The band's rise to fame has been less than peaceful! Our Lady Peace, a Toronto based bandwere formed in 1992 when vocalist Raine Maida answered a classified ad. Our Lady Peace nevertook the indie route. They attended a few music industry seminars and conferences, made athree-song demo and achieved a recording contract with Sony Music Canada.

Our Lady Peace

Have you ever wondered where Our Lady Peace got their name? The name Our Lady Peace actuallycomes from a poem written by Mark Van Doren. Some people get confused and think Our LadyPeace are associated with religion. It is also said that around the time the band was signed, Raine Maida (vocals) received some mail for "Our Lady of Peace Memorial Gardens". Raine stillhasn't opened the letter.

The Release of Naveed:

Naveed was released in May of 1994. The album sold over 500,000 copies in Canada and the US.The cover features Saul fox who is a friend of the band. You may also recognize him on thecover of clumsy as well.

The Two Year Tour:

Could you imagine, Touring for two years. Playing almost every night. Well that is just whatOLP did. They toured with bands such as: Bush, Van Halen, Page and Plant and AlanisMorissette.

The Release of Clumsy:

In February 1997, OLP released their second album clumsy which has gone several times platinumnow. This album has brought them many more fans."they learned to be heavy without bombarding, to be organic without folksy, to use synth, percussion, piano and mixing tricks to give the songs subtle nuttiness." -- What! magazineFeb. 1997.
